2QB Dynasty Top 200: March 2017 Edition

Below is an update to my Top-200 2QB dynasty rankings for the month of March. You’ll notice I’ve added a column called “Pos Diff”. That column gives the difference in player ranking at his position. A positive number means that the player’s rank has improved and a negative one means the rank has gotten worse. If the word “FIRST” is in that column, it means this is the first time that player has made the top-200.

The biggest mover up the rankings at quarterback was Kirk Cousins, who went from my QB11 to QB3. Cousins is fourth in passing yards over the last two years and left a bunch of touchdowns on the field in 2016. If we run a linear regression between passing yards and passing touchdowns since 2000 (r-squared .886), the expected number of passing touchdowns for Cousins with 4,915 passing yards is 31.49.

Cousins had just 25 passing touchdowns in 2016, coming about 7.5 touchdowns under expectation. That’s 30 fantasy points in a four points per passing touchdown league. Even with those points off the board, Cousins was the QB5 in 2016.

Perhaps my favorite part about Cousins right now is that people are worried about a potential trade to a “bad team” like Cleveland or San Francisco. That depresses his price, but shouldn’t actually affect his production. The Browns are loaded with receiving talent, and have a great offensive head coach in Hue Jackson. The 49ers have a fairly barren wide receiver core, but Pierre Garcon has a ton of experience with Cousins, and Kyle Shanahan is another brilliant offensive mind. They could also add wide receiver talent through the draft. No matter where Cousins ends up, I feel great about both his short- and long-term outlook.

Some other big movers up the board include:

  • Willie Snead (+15)
  • Kenny Britt (+17)
  • Pharoh Cooper (+19)
  • Rex Burkhead (+14)

Players moving down the rankings include:

  • DeVante Parker (-12)
  • Julian Edelman (-14)
  • Sterling Shepard (-14)
  • Thomas Rawls (-10)
  • Michael Floyd (-19)

A note on quarterbacks:

  • My first quarterback in the rankings is Andrew Luck, who comes in at 23. Why so low? Even in a 2QB league I think it’s important to consider the opportunity cost at the position. An elite skill player is still more valuable to me than a quarterback. What you will notice is that there is a significant overall bump in the value of the position, with my 12th ranked signal-caller coming in at 65th overall.

As always, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or in the comments section if you have a question or critique of my rankings!
