Mining The 2QB Waiver Wire For Gold: Week 15

Every week I break down the 2QB waiver wire landscape with updated information and developments from the previous weeks. All starting quarterbacks need to be rostered in 2QB/Superflex fantasy football leagues, especially during the win or go home fantasy football playoffs. Let’s take a look at some players to pick up immediately and to monitor moving forward…

*All Bye Weeks Have Already Taken Place

Matt Moore/Brandon Doughty – Miami Dolphins

It sounds like the earliest Ryan Tannehill is expected to return is Week 17. That means Matt Moore will likely quarterback the Miami Dolphins for the remainder of the fantasy football playoffs. Weeks 15 and 16 are both on the road for the Dolphins against the Jets and the Bills, respectively. Divisional games on the road aren’t exactly what we’re looking for this time of year. Still, if you’re in a bind, Moore does have a good matchup this week against a Jets defense giving up the 11th-most passing yards per game and that is tied for the seventh-most pass TDs allowed. It helps that the Jets are counting down the days to the offseason.

Backing up Matt Moore will likely be Brandon Doughty, who was on the Dolphins’ practice squad last week when Tannehill went down. This is important because…

In the extremely rare case Moore misses this game due to the birth of his third child, Doughty would likely be the starter.

Scott Barrett’s lost twitter avi bet aside, this dude knows a thing or two about the game of football. It sounds like Doughty could be a fun watch on Saturday night with a little more upside than initially anticipated if thrust into action.

Bryce Petty – New York Jets

Bryce Petty has been written up in this article multiple times and he’s now a locked-in starting QB. Looking at his schedule for the rest of the fantasy playoffs, Petty gets the Dolphins at home in Week 15 and will play at New England in Week 16. Bill Belichick has historically eaten young QBs alive, but Petty’s Week 15 matchup is interesting. The Dolphins are tied for the seventh-most pass TDs allowed.

Robert Griffin III – Cleveland Browns

Robert Griffin III managed only 104 passing yards last week. Still, he rushed for 31 yards and a TD. Griffin will play at Buffalo in Week 15 and against the Chargers in Week 16. That is not a favorable schedule. I would look elsewhere if I could help it, but if you have to start Griffin he at least offers some rushing upside.

Cardale Jones – Buffalo Bills

The Bills lost another game and now sit at 6-7 for the season. With the Bills all but guaranteed to miss the playoffs yet again, the drumbeat continues to get louder within the media in Buffalo for Cardale Jones to see the field. The Bills have a favorable schedule with games against the Browns, Dolphins, and Jets to close out 2016 and it would be fun to see to what Jones has before the year is over.

Dan Orlovsky – Detroit Lions

It sounds like Matthew Stafford is going to play through his finger injury. This is just a situation to monitor. If Stafford is forced to miss any time, Dan Orlovsky would likely see the field. Detroit has games against the Giants, Cowboys, and Packers left to go. Orlovsky could be a desperation play in Week 16 if he is the starter in two weeks, but that’s about it.
