Week 14 Moving Targets

Week 14 Moving Targets

Moving Targets is a weekly column focused on tidbits and trends from target data, with an eye toward forecasting future value spikes for fantasy players. … My focus will be on the target numbers themselves, highlighting a few I find interesting. Each section will include a short blurb of analysis, but mostly I will allow you — the wise reader — to draw the conclusions you wish from the data.

Note: Target data comes from the 4for4 Player Targets App.

Carolina Panthers

Week 14 Targets Previous Avg +/-
Greg Olsen 7 8.1 -1.1
Devin Funchess 5 3.75 1.25
Kelvin Benjamin 4 7.9 -3.9
Ted Ginn 4 5.6 -1.6

Whether there is truth to the benching rumors or not, Kelvin Benjamin has not been a focal point of this offense most of the year. He has been nowhere near the WR1 most of his owners hoped at draft time. Devin Funchess also has not lived up to the breakout hype, but he’s increasing his target share. He remains an intriguing stash in dynasty.

Cleveland Browns

Week 14 Targets Previous Avg +/-
Corey Coleman 11 7.3 -3.7
Gary Barnidge 5 5.2 -0.2
Terrelle Pryor 3 9.5 -6.5

I love seeing how targets shake out when we get a new quarterback, and this is the first full week with Robert Griffin III under center in Cleveland. (Who knows if he’ll be back next week.) Corey Coleman looks like the best option, and it isn’t close. I’m still totally sold on both he and Terrelle Pryor for dynasty leagues, but I don’t know that I’d trust either one in redraft this week.

Dallas Cowboys

Week 14 Targets Previous Avg +/-
Dez Bryant 9 7.9 1.1
Jason Witten 7 6.1 0.9
Cole Beasley 7 7.9 1.1
Terrance Williams 6 3.5 2.5

I wanted to highlight Dez Bryant’s nine targets this week, because I expect most will only remember his dreadful stat line. You should have absolutely no fear starting Dez going forward. I love Cole Beasley as a cheap PPR option, and I don’t trust Terrance Williams this year or going forward in dynasty. He’ll have decent weeks, but his shot at a true featured role in this offense has passed.

New York Jets

Week 14 Targets Previous Avg +/-
Robby Anderson 11 4.25 6.75
Quincy Enunwa 7 6.3 0.7
Brandon Marshall 5 9.1 -4.1
Bilal Powell 5 4.3 0.7

The Bryce Petty to Robby Anderson connection looks to be quite real. There is something to be said for chemistry, and it’s clear these two have it. Sadly, Petty is so bad that I don’t think you can trust any Jets WR for the rest of the year. Bilal Powell, however, looks like a fantastic option now that Matt Forte is injured. I will be considering him everywhere this week.
