#SFB480 Interview with Adam Cahill
The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: Adam Cahill — writer for Kings of Fantasy.
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
@TheOtherFFGuy ~ I’m a poker degenerate turned fantasy football junkie. Just beginning my journey into fantasy football writing, while soaking up all the knowledge and support the fantasy football Twitter community has to offer.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
I probably want to defeat Dave Richard the most. The CBS podcast was the first fantasy football podcast I ever listened to and I still enjoy doing so. My opinions have strayed far away from their advice though, and it’ll be interesting to go head-to-head.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
I’ve done a few Scott Fish Bowl mocks that @TJHernandez and @ChubChubMcGrubb have hosted and gotten an idea of draft flow. I think mastering the QB runs will be important. I think understanding how the scoring system evens out positions is another key factor. I also drafted in Scott’s #KOTH2 earlier this summer, so I have a loose idea of how to value players in this scoring system. The other big factor is the playoff structuring and what I’ve learned from tournaments that the NFFC and FFPC host. Those tournaments have a similar large format playoff structure and having teams that peak at the end of the year and offer large weekly upside is the key to being successful.
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
I honestly like my draft slot of eight. I’m not too sure it makes much of a difference in this format because there is value in drafting any position (QB, RB, WR, TE) early. Being in the middle gives me the ability to gauge my opponents tendencies more, and supports me with not missing out on a QB run.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
Well, if we are talking beers, I’d have to invite TJ Hernandez so we can talk about how gross IPAs are. Definitely have to pick @14TeamMocker too, and not just so I can unmask him like he’s Spider Man or something, but because he’s been one of the most supportive people I’ve interacted with in the fantasy Twitter community. I’d have to invite Scott Fish so I can buy him a beer to thank him for creating this awesome league and inviting me to take part. Lastly I think I’d have to invite Matt Harmon…’s dog, Charlie. I’ve got to know who his next hot Reception Pupception Wide Retriever is. I guess Matt can come too…
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
I have a boy band level obsession with the band Twenty One Pilots. If you are reading this and haven’t heard of them I’d be surprised. Their song “Stressed Out” gets played on the radio so much now that it feels weird to think this is the band I first saw in front of a few hundred fans… I last saw them at All State Arena in Chicago in front of 18,000. They put on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen, their fans are insanely die-hard (even if most are in high school), and their lyrics all deal with the internal struggles of depression, anxiety, and finding purpose which really resonates with me on a very deep level. Please give them a listen if you never have. |-/
