#SFB480 Interview with Derek Meyers
The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: Derek Myers – 2015 #SFB360 Champion
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
@damyers10 – No one will trade with me in my home leagues. Trash-talker, League dominator, whomever you just drafted was overpriced and will get hurt.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
I’m a little embarrassed to say I am not super familiar with too many of the folks in my division so I’ll say Sal Stefanile. I follow him on twitter and I’m probably most familiar with him.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
A little of both. I have a strategy I’d like to use and players I want to target but as Mike Tyson said “Everyone has a plan ‘til they get punched in the mouth.” I think last year my pre-selected pick was taken right in front of me in about 10 different rounds so you have to be ready for that. With this many great fantasy football analysts in one league, you have to be ready to change on the fly. You can’t fall in love with any one player or strategy.
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
My strategy in any draft if I get to pick my slot is to take the latest first round pick that I’d be happy with a player at. For this season, and the #SFB480, I have my eye particularly on three players so third pick would be ideal so I get one of the three no matter what and I have the earliest possible pick in round two. Unfortunately for me, I sit in the six spot.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
Obviously, I’d start with the boss man, Scott Fish. One of my favorite podcasts is Living the Stream so I’d love to have a Miller Lite with CD Carter. Not dinner though as his food takes are trash and it’d be embarrassing to see him dump his meal in the garbage in front of the wait staff. In that same vein, I love the 4for4 podcast and site so John Paulsen is a must. Last but most definitely not least, I’m going to cheat and make this one the three gentlemen from The Fantasy Football Auction, Slim, Blistr and Uncle Bucketts. I’ve seen some twitter pictures of the food spreads at their auction draft so I am sure dinner with them would be fantastic.
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
I think last season I said how big I was into hunting and fishing so I won’t use that again but I’ll say anything outdoors. For someone who works in front of a computer screen every day and spends an inordinate amount of time researching for fantasy football, I love to spend any other free time outside. In addition to hunting and fishing, I like to hike, love to golf, and in general, spend time outside with my family.
