Mining The 2QB Waiver Wire For Gold: Week 7

Mining The 2QB Waiver Wire For Gold: Week 7

All relevant QBs need to be rostered in 2QB fantasy football leagues, which makes it even more important for you stay on top of things. … You can uncover a gem on the waiver wire if you successfully predict what will happen in the future. Your QB situation might look great now, but those who invested in Andrew Luck’s services before last season probably thought the same thing prior to him missing nine games due to injury.

Every week I will break down and update the 2QB waiver wire landscape, as more information and developments become available to try and help you stay ahead of the game. Let’s take a look at some players to pick up immediately or to monitor moving forward…

Week 7 teams on bye: Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys

Immediate Pickups

Landry Jones – Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have their bye in Week 8 so you may only get one start out of Landry Jones, but if you’re in a pinch he’s your pick-up of the week depending on what happens with the Jets. Jones isn’t #GoodAtFootball but most of us said the same thing about Brian Hoyer just a few weeks ago. Plus, Jones does get to play with Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell.

Geno Smith – New York Jets

Ryan Fitzpatrick was absolutely awful on Monday Night Football for all the world to see and was benched in the fourth quarter for Geno Smith. Smith is worth an immediate pick up in case the Jets announce this week he will be the starter moving forward. The Jets have a favorable upcoming schedule, as they get the Ravens, Browns, Dolphins, and Rams before a Week 11 bye.

High Upside Backups To Monitor

Tony Romo – Dallas Cowboys

I was still on the Tony Romo should be the Cowboys starter when healthy bandwagon before Week 6. I’m not nearly as bullish after seeing Dak Prescott throw for 247 yards and three TDs on his way to a win in Green Bay. Still, Romo is worth a speculative add if you have a roster spot to fill. He could make you a league winner with home games against the Buccaneers and Lions in weeks 15 and 16, if named the starter.

Josh McCown – Cleveland Browns

Josh McCown is nearing a return from a broken collarbone. While it’s not clear whether Hue Jackson will start McCown or rookie Cody Kessler once that happens, my belief is McCown would once again be the leader in Cleveland. Add McCown now if you have the roster space. If not, at least keep your eye on this QB situation moving forward. Starting in Week 8, the Browns schedule is decent, as they have games against the Jets, Cowboys, Ravens, Steelers, and Giants before a Week 13 bye. Plus, Corey Coleman should also be returning sometime in the near future to pair with pleasant surprise Terrelle Pryor.

Tom Savage – Houston Texans

Despite the Houston Texans pulling out a win on Sunday Night Football against a bad Indianapolis Colts team, Brock Osweiler did not look good for the majority of the game. Osweiler’s contract all but guarantees he will be the starter all season. Regardless, Tom Savage was a fourth-round pick by the Texans just two years ago and is a name to know moving forward.

Mike Glennon – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

James Winston is tied for the second-most interceptions in the league so far this season. Mike Glennon is just a name to file away at this time in case Winston gets injured or continues to struggle. Mike Evans has enough ability to make just about any QB fantasy relevant.

AJ McCarron – Cincinnati Bengals

AJ McCarron is one of the best backup QBs in the NFL. He would become very fantasy viable if Andy Dalton were to get injured, just like he did at the end of last year. McCarron finished the 2015 regular season with 854 passing yards, six TDs, and two INTs. Plus, he would be throwing to A.J. Green, one of the best WRs in the NFL.
