#SFB480 Interview with Eric Coleman
The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: Eric Coleman – Dynasty League Football IDP writer.
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
I (@UtahEC) have settled into the fantasy community as an IDP guy with a focus on defensive college prospects. Fortunately, Dynasty League Football has given me an outlet for my writing and the Saturday 2 Sunday podcast allows me to talk defensive college players and NFL defensive schemes until I’m blue in the face.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
I guess I would like to beat Tim Torch (@TimNFL) from UTHdynasty.com the most in my division. We both had strong playoff runs last year, so beating him is not a small feat. I also cut my teeth writing for UTH in my early days, so taking him down seems fitting.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
I basically let the board fall to me but I have a few guidelines for this format. I try to take 2 QBs in the first five rounds. Also I want to take at least one RB in the first five rounds, which helps in later round flexibility. I don’t think full zero-RB makes as much sense in this format. Other than that, I’m just looking for value because each divisional draft has its own personality
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
Give me the 12 slot. I like the turn because I have to think less about trying to sneak guys around the corner. Also it seems with the superflex and jacked up RB scoring there is always nice value at the 1.12/2.01 turn. I have the eighth slot this year, so I’m sure I will get burned trying to slide the wrong guy through the turn especially with Mr. Torch in the ninth slot.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
Since my Saturday2Sunday colleagues are not playing in SFB this year, I will go with my IDP brethren. When you play IDP you get roughly double the roster spots, so I’m taking double the crew out for beers. That posse would include TheFFghost (@TheFFGhost), Eric Olinger (@OlingerIDP), Doug Green (@BigBoardIDP), Steve Wyremski (@SteveWyremski), Tyler Huggins (@HBombIDP), Drew Dodson (@DrewDodsonNFL), Waz (@WazNFL), and Adam Tzikas (@AdamTz). I love the entire fantasy football IDP community and how collaborative it is.
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
It isn’t a huge secret that I spend a lot of time biking, skiing, and climbing in the Utah mountains. Although I suspect some folks would be surprised that I coached a traveling volleyball team for a number of years.
