The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: James Simpson – Writer and Editor for Dynasty League Football.
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
I’m a polite, British, dynasty-driven writer and editor for Dynasty League Football who can be found at @JS_Football (I don’t tweet all that often). I seek out the unique, the inspiring and the positive in the fantasy football world.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
Interestingly, I currently play in a dynasty league with Jonathan (one that Joe was also a part of), so I definitely want to get one up on those two. However, I’ve been a follower of Shane Hallam since before I even started writing, so it’s awesome to have the chance to go up against him.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
Always go by the board. I have always felt that you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you have too much of a regimented plan for a draft. What if an amazing player falls to you who would go against your pre-determined plan? Take the best players, and the roster will be strong.
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
I’d probably choose somewhere in the middle. I don’t like the long wait between picks and not really having any clue of who will be there at my next selection. Being at six or seven provides a good balance for me.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
Having already experienced dinner in the Kritikos household, I’d have to take the opportunity to have a meal with George again. He’s simply a great dude. Joshua Lake has been a big supporter of mine for years, and is one of the most positive people in the Twitterverse, so I would enjoy discussing how much the Cowboys and Giants suck. I’d like to meet with Jacob Rickrode, someone who seems to share my mindset when it comes to most dynasty strategy and views on players. We’d bond over going all in on Dez Bryant this year. And finally Eric Dickens, Mr. DLF. When I hear talk about paying it forward, inspiring others and growing a tribe of great people, Eric is one of the best. It would be an honor.
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
I don’t think it would come as too big a surprise to those who follow me, but I’m a Glasgow Rangers fan through and through, and it runs in the family as my grandfather was the chairman. I have family in Scotland, and we still get to games regularly to watch a club rich in history at a fantastic stadium. I’m all about playing football as well, having done so for my college. Unfortunately though, I have Arian Foster’s hamstrings.
