The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: Karl Safchick – co-host Dynasty One Podcast.
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
You can find me on Twitter @KarlSafchick. As for my persona, I’d like to think of myself as a fun, beer loving, over tweeting, Phillip Dorsett supporter who tweets too much about politics.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
No question it’s Matt Williamson. Not only would it be glorious to take down a former scout and former ESPN employee, but he and I have very different views on many players. It would be fun to see my strategy win.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
I plan to print out a copy of Nathan Powell‘s rankings and drafting using a “bottom up” approach. Which is to say I’ll draft his least favorite players in the early rounds. I’m bound to have a posting ROI with this approach.
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
Every year is different, but this year I’d love to draft on the turn (1.12). The top of this draft class is 15-18 players deep, so if I can get two in that range, I’d be happy.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
This is literally the toughest question you can ask me. Since I’ve joined the fantasy community on social media, I’ve literally met hundreds of people I’d like to have a beer with. Instead, I’ll tell you that last year I was invited to the FLEX League draft in Washington D.C. by Jake Ciely. Afterwards I had drinks with Ray Summerlin, Rich Hribar, Renee Miller and Brandon Marianne Lee. Those conversations were some of the most interesting and thought provoking in which I’ve had with people in the fantasy community. They’re all great people and I can’t wait do it again this year.
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
I love to play tennis, but that wouldn’t surprise many people. I’ve recently started to go to shows run by The Moth. If you’re not familiar with the organization, check them out here themoth.org. Basically a bunch of people gather in a theatre and some are randomly picked to tell a story about their lives. It’s quite simply a thrilling, and oftentimes emotional, experience. Oh, and I LOVE heavy metal music.
