#SFB480 Interview with Mike Tagliere
The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: Mike Tagliere – Lead Writer for Pro Football Focus Fantasy.
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
I’d like my fantasy football persona to include the fact that I’m always willing to make time for followers, because without them, I’m nothing. They took out time to talk to me, so the least I can do is give them a few minutes of my time. Follow me on Twitter @MikeTagliereNFL and I’ll prove it.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
Well I’m a huge fan of Liz Loza, as her and I often see eye-to-eye on many things. Because of that, though, I’ll take it upon myself to take her down at “our” own game.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
I’m never the type of guy to walk into a draft with a certain strategy in mind, because it locks you down, and you take all the flow out of the draft. If there is a run at wide receiver, it’s likely that there is some great value at running back. I will say that I do plenty of mock drafts in order to be prepared for any situation the draft throws at me.
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
I love being in the middle of the draft, so for this league, I’ll go with the No. 6 pick. I like being in the middle because you don’t have to reach for players that you like. If you’re on the edges (like pick No. 1 or pick No. 12), you’re forced into taking “your guys” earlier than you normally would. In the end, it comes down to picking the right players, and I feel I can do that best from the middle of the draft board.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
Well Scott Fish would definitely be one of them, considering I’d like to thank the guy who does all of the neat charity stuff that he does. Next on the list would be Jake Ciely from RotoExperts. He invited me out to the FLEX draft before I was even hired by PFF, and I appreciate the work he does to get us industry folks together. T.J. Hernandez from 4for4 is my guy, and I’d definitely like to sit down with him again and have not just one beer, but a few. And then lastly, Sigmund Bloom who has been an amazing friend in the industry. To take the time that he does in order to try and help people should be recognized, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this.
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
My love for music and what it meant to me growing up. My favorite band in the world is Korn, and it’s been that way since 1995 for me. And no, not because of “Freak on a Leash,” as it’s not even close to one of their best songs. Most would be shocked to know that I haven’t missed one of their shows in Chicago since 1997. Maybe one day I’ll get to sit down with all of them to have dinner and a drink! Ahem, if anyone can make this happen… Free fantasy advice for the rest of your life. Heck, I’ll come to your draft with you.
