The Scott Fish Bowl commences on July 11th. We asked Zach Law to interview some of the participants about the experience. Today’s subject: Shawn Siegele – RotoViz Writer.
1. Can you give me a two-sentence introduction to your fantasy football “personna”? Include your Twitter handle.
The twitter is @FF_Contrarian, although it’s really more guerrilla fantasy . . . if guerrillas were just friendly folks who wanted to have a hamburger with you.
2. Who in your division do you want to take down the most?
I’d like to finish ahead of Dwayne Brown who is absolutely hilarious and should have some great jokes at my team’s expense. Recently had a chance to chat a little with Ben Kester and the dude is crazy smart. I’ll have my work cut out to finish ahead of him.
3. Do you have a strategy already set up for the draft or do you let the board fall to you?
It’s a going to be a blast to play in a balanced format where I can select all of the personal favorites I’d never get to select in other drafts.
4. If you got to pick your draft slot, what would you take and why?
I’d love to have the turn, which is close to my No. 11 slot. Having a pick late in the round is a disaster in most formats this year, but I hope it allows some flexibility in QB choices at the Round 3-4 turn.
5. If you could select four people in the Scott Fish Bowl (#SFB480) to have either a beer or dinner with, who would it be?
Just four is brutal as I’d be interested in sitting down for some lamb tikka masala with almost everyone I’ve met in the fantasy world. I’m going to exempt all RotoViz writers, including Rich Hribar, Sal Stefanile, and Denny Carter who would all definitely be at my ideal table (but have all moonlighted a little with us). I’ll go with one of my very favorite authors and all-around tremendous guy Pat Thorman, the brilliant late round QB guru to the stars JJ Zachariason, fellow book-lover and one of the leading ladies of fantasy Liz Loza, and my former editor at PFF, Jeff Ratcliffe, as erudite as he is interesting.
6. What’s one non-fantasy football related interest you have that would surprise the rest of the SFB?
This kind of weird and time-specific to early July, but I love watching the Tour de France despite having no interest in bike riding myself. I’m generally not a big fan of sports that wouldn’t also be classified as games, but the Tour is the pinnacle of fearless and frightening human endurance. It’s addicting. I record and watch all the stages. Plus, Phil and Paul are the best commentators in all of sports.
